National certificates and diplomas are developed with industry consultation to reflect the needs of the industry as well as the compliance requirements of the Real Estate Agents Act 2008, including licensing. REAL ITO ensures the skills and knowledge set out in the qualifications are exactly what the real estate industry say is needed to ensure people keep themselves safe. Through its leadership REAL ITO can address the skill and knowledge gaps for the real estate industry and set the standards to meet those needs.
When you decide to complete a national certificate or a national diploma you may be able to have prior learning recognised which can lead to credit towards your qualification
National Certificate in Real Estate (Salesperson)
Successful completion of this qualification ensures you meet the licensing requirements to obtain a salespersons’ license to sell property in New Zealand. The qualification will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge you need to know to appraise the value of property and to sell property in New Zealand. It also covers the important legal requirements to ensure you have the knowledge to bring about a sale or transaction that meets the client and customer needs within the law.

National Certificate in Real Estate (Branch Manager)
This is the next building block in the qualifications for working in the real estate industry. It builds on your skills and knowledge as a salesperson and ramps it up to a level that you can then manage real estate projects, real estate staff, the preparation and discharge of contracts, appraisal in different real estate sectors and financial transactions including trust accounts. It is flexible to your needs offering you a broad skill and knowledge base for running a real estate business. Successful completion of this qualification will enable you to obtain a licence as a branch manager in New Zealand.

National Diploma in Real Estate (Agent)
The national diploma builds on the branch manager qualification and incorporates all of the branch manager units standards. The qualification enables you to meet the licensing requirements of a real estate agent and enables you to own your own real estate business.
